Netflix will produce a series based on Assassin’s Creed

Netflix has officially greenlit the production of a series based on Ubisoft’s iconic video game franchise Assassin’s Creed, according to an announcement published on the developer’s website.

Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo) have been appointed as showrunners, creators, and executive producers. The announcement describes the show as a gripping thriller exploring a secret war between two shadowy factions — one fighting to preserve freedom, and the other seeking to control humanity’s future through manipulation and power.

No release date has been announced yet, and it’s still unclear which historical period or events the series will depict.

Assassin’s Creed is a popular action-adventure game series from Ubisoft that blends real historical events with a fictional conflict between Assassins and Templars. In 2016, the franchise received a film adaptation directed by Justin Kurzel, though it was met with lukewarm reviews from critics.
