If the winners of The Game Awards 2024 were decided solely based on Metacritic scores, the results would look different. VGC compiled a list of winners for major categories using critical ratings as the sole criteria.

- Best Debut Indie Game – Balatro
- Best Action Game – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Best Action/Adventure Game – Astro Bot
- Best RPG – Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
- Best Fighting Game – Tekken 8
- Best Family Game – Astro Bot
- Best Sim/Strategy Game – Unicorn Overlord
- Best Sports/Racing Game – WWE 2K24
- Best Multiplayer Game – Tekken 8
- Best Mobile Game – Balatro
- Best VR/AR Game – Asgard’s Wrath 2
- Best Narrative – Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Best Art Direction – Astro Bot
- Best Adaptation – Arcane
Key Highlights:
- Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth lead the pack with seven nominations each.
- Sony Interactive Entertainment is the most-nominated publisher this year with 16 nominations, followed by Square Enix and Xbox (12 each) and Sega (11).
When to Watch the Ceremony?
The Game Awards 2024 will take place on December 12 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The live broadcast starts at 4:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM ET (December 13 at 12:30 AM GMT).
Organizers promise not only awards but also world premieres of new games and musical performances by The Game Awards Orchestra, conducted by Lorne Balfe.
