Gearbox unveils ambitious post-launch roadmap for Borderlands 4

Gearbox has revealed an extensive endgame and post-launch plan for Borderlands 4, offering players immediate access to advanced content and a steady stream of new features after release. Among the key changes:

  • Ultimate Vault Hunter mode kicks in right after completing the campaign—no replay required.
  • New characters can now start at level 30, speeding up access to high-tier gear.
  • Expect Weekly Wildcard missions, rotating boss fights, guaranteed Legendary drops, the return of Maurice’s Black Market Machine, and full support for online matchmaking.

Post-launch content is robust and spans both free and paid updates:

  • October 2025 brings the free mini-event “Horrors of Kairos”, complete with new Legendaries, cosmetics, and a weather variant.
  • Following this, multiple paid Bounty Packs are set to deliver new missions, bosses, vehicles, gear, and cosmetics, plus the introduction of an “Invincible” boss.
  • Early 2026 will launch the first major DLC story pack, “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned”, featuring a cosmic-horror theme, a new region, a new playable Vault Hunter, and more immersive missions and loot.

This follows Gearbox’s broader vision of sustained, engaging content spanning beyond the game’s launch window, positioning Borderlands 4 as a looter-shooter with significant post-campaign longevity.
