Techland has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Dying Light: The Beast, and it fully lives up to its name — brutality isn’t just present, it’s the core of the experience. Fans asked for a blood-soaked version of Crane — and now they have him.
The video showcases dozens of ways to take down the infected: bones are shattered, flesh is sliced, enemies are burned and torn apart. Realistic body physics, the sound of ripping tissue, and precisely rendered impacts turn every fight into a mini-Mortal Kombat match — and that’s not an exaggeration.
But the violence isn’t just a gameplay feature — it’s part of the narrative. According to Techland, Kyle Crane returns after 13 years of torture and experiments, stronger and consumed by rage. His new powers feed on that fury, unleashed through combat.
The game features twice as many hit zones, with every strike leaving visible damage — scars, broken bones, and burn marks. The execution system has also been massively expanded — there are three times more finishing moves, all dynamically generated based on the weapon, enemy position, and combat context. These aren’t scripted scenes — they’re full-on animations that feel like brutal mini-performances.
To reach this level of detail, Techland’s artists used gallons of fake blood for reference and manually tuned every damage model. Lead character artist Dominik Wasienko noted that a lot of mannequins and dolls were broken in the process.
Dying Light: The Beast is set to launch on September 19 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a story campaign lasting around 20 hours. Techland emphasizes that this isn’t the final version — with six weeks left until release, the studio is still polishing every aspect of the game.
