Dead Island 2 was initially announced in 2014, undergoing delays and a change of developer. The development was taken over by the internal Deep Silver studio, Dambuster, in 2019. The game was released in April of the previous year for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC through the Epic Games Store.
On its release day, Dead Island 2 surpassed expectations, selling over a million copies in three days and two million in its first month. It became the “biggest launch in history” for Deep Silver, achieving success both in terms of units and revenue, as per parent company Embracer Group. Deep Silver recently confirmed the release of Dead Island 2 on Steam on April 22.
