CS 2 player numbers have grown significantly lately, peaking at 1.34 million users on February 25. This is the best result over the past five months. The last time the game reached this level was in September 2023, when it was released. The data was taken from SteamDB.

What’s peculiar is that there was seemingly no reason for such a jump. The Call To Arms update came out on February 7 and didn’t impact the graphs to such extent. Typically the biggest inflow of players happens in the first days of an update, not after some period.
There was European RMR for PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 running in late February, and it could influence the situation. Valve’s tournaments sometimes affect the player count. Although it was not yet a Major and its viewership was nothing unusual.
The spike could’ve also been explained by seasonal factors. Last February, the CS:GO servers were also overpopulated even before the CS 2 announcement. But it wasn’t true for 2022 or 2021.
