Games come alive, and the fun never ends!

Blizzard is reportedly set to unveil a new StarCraft shooter later this year, led by a former Far Cry franchise head

According to a recent Windows Central report, StarCraft is expected to take center stage at the September event, alongside new expansions for Diablo IV and World of Warcraft.

The existence of a StarCraft shooter currently in development first came to light last year in Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, a book by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier.

As detailed in the book, the project is reportedly being led by Dan Hay, former head of the Far Cry franchise, who left Ubisoft in 2021 after spending over a decade at its Montreal studio, where he oversaw the series during its most successful years.

Later in the year, Blizzard also posted job listings for an “upcoming open-world shooter,” which many believe could be connected to the StarCraft project.

If confirmed, this would represent Blizzard’s third attempt at creating a StarCraft shooter, following the previously cancelled StarCraft: Ghost and Ares projects.

Speaking about the unannounced title last year, Schreier said the project was indeed active at the time he was writing the book, adding that StarCraft remains very much alive at Blizzard. He also joked that Blizzard seems unable to walk away from StarCraft shooters, repeatedly returning to the idea despite past cancellations.
