A remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is reportedly set to be revealed in the coming weeks, with sources suggesting it could launch as early as next month. The project has been in development for some time, having first been mentioned by an alleged developer in 2023 and later referenced in leaked court documents.
The remake is believed to be handled by Virtuos, a well-known support studio that has contributed to major franchises such as Call of Duty, Tomb Raider, Dark Souls, BioShock, Battlefield, Uncharted, and Horizon. The company is also assisting with the development of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.
Built on Unreal Engine 5, the new version of Oblivion is said to feature significant gameplay improvements across six key areas: stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery, hit reactions, and HUD. The blocking system has reportedly been influenced by Souls-like games, while sneak icons are now highlighted for better visibility.
Other enhancements include a more forgiving stamina system, an updated HUD designed to be clearer and more visually appealing, and improved hit reactions for both players and NPCs. Archery mechanics have also been modernized for a more refined experience in both first and third-person perspectives.
With a potential reveal on the horizon and a launch possibly before June, fans of the classic RPG may soon experience Oblivion in a brand-new way.
