Baldur’s Gate 3 to Introduce Cross-Play, 12 New Subclasses, and Photo Mode Next Year

The upcoming eighth major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, scheduled for release in 2025, will bring a host of exciting new features to the game.

Cross-play is among the highlights of the update, enabling players to enjoy seamless multiplayer across platforms. “Whether you’re joining PS5 players from your PC, or teaming up with Mac users from your Xbox, Baldur’s Gate 3 multiplayer will soon offer full cross-platform progression, including cross-play – just as the gaming gods intended,” said Larian Studios. Players will be able to invite friends directly to cross-play lobbies and find multiplayer games with users on other platforms via the Larian Network.

Patch 8 will also expand the game’s class options by introducing one new subclass for each existing class, alongside additional enhancements. “Expect new abilities, animations, VFX, summons, cantrips, and unique dialogue lines for the Oathbreaker Knight, with special reactivity for Oathbreakers and homebrewed improvements to elevate your role-playing experience,” Larian explained.

Another major addition is the Photo Mode, described as “a photo booth” offering robust customization options for capturing in-game moments. Players will have the freedom to edit and stage shots during exploration, combat, dialogues, and even cinematic scenes, with varying levels of control depending on the situation.

Before the patch’s official launch, players will have the opportunity to preview its features during stress tests planned for early January on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

In related news, the console versions of Baldur’s Gate 3 recently implemented a limit on the number of mods that can be used per save.
