According to a well-known gaming industry insider, Billlbil-Kun, the new game Astro Bot is set to be announced “in the coming weeks”. He suggests that its possible title could simply be “Astro Bot” and it will be revealed within the next 15 days.
“Among other information we’ve received, it seems that part of the game will take place in an environment located in the heart of a desert,” the statement reads.
“One of the new characters in this game will be a fox-like robot, sharing some similarities with Astro.”
Billlbil-Kun mentions that the game will be available for PlayStation 5, unlike its predecessor which was designed for PlayStation VR.
The last installment in the Astro series, Astro’s Playroom, was released in 2020 – a 3D platformer pre-installed on every PS5 console.
Although highly acclaimed, the follow-up to the 2018 PlayStation VR game Astro Bot: Rescue Mission also served as a free tech demo for the DualSense PS5 controller.
Astro’s developer, Team Asobi, became an independent studio in 2021 after the dissolution of Japan Studio, a historic PlayStation division it was formerly part of.
A job vacancy in the same year indicated that the Tokyo-based studio was working on a new 3D action game, and in 2022 the company stated that its next project would be its “biggest to date”.
