PlayStation Store listings suggest that Alone in the Dark 2 may soon join the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue. This development was spotted on PS Deals, a site that tracks marketplace updates, according to Gematsu. The classic PS1 survival horror game, initially released in 1996, would bring the eerie adventure of Edward Carnby to the service, taking players back to 1923 where Carnby battles dark forces within Derceto, a haunted mansion he may never leave.
The PlayStation Store description teases: “The sequel to the critically acclaimed Alone in the Dark, this new adventure sees our hero, Edward Carnby, confronting the many faces of evil in the darkness of Derceto.” Earlier this year, leaks also pointed to Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare joining the service, which later became a reality.
This move follows recent challenges for the franchise, with Embracer Group closing Pieces Interactive, the studio behind the latest Alone in the Dark reboot, after the game underperformed in sales. PlayStation also recently confirmed the addition of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain to the Classics Catalogue.
This month’s PlayStation Plus Essential games include Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the new release Death Note Killer Within.
