According to studio CEO and game director Hakan Abrak, the extra time is needed for final polishing to ensure the game meets quality expectations at launch. He emphasized that 007 First Light is IO’s most ambitious project to date and is already fully playable from start to finish.
The studio believes the delay will help deliver the strongest possible version of the game and support its long-term success. More updates are expected in early 2026.
Despite the delay, the game is still planned to release simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
007 First Light is framed as an origin story, starring Patrick Gibson as a 26-year-old, inexperienced James Bond on a mission to earn his 00 status. The cast also includes Gemma Chan as MI6 psychologist Dr Selina Tan, and Lenny Kravitz as villain Bawma, a powerful and unpredictable black-market dealer.
