Wizards of the Coast unveils a first look at Exodus combat and exploration gameplay

Developed by Archetype Entertainment—a studio founded by former BioWare talent, including Mass Effect writer Drew Karpyshyn—Exodus has already made multiple appearances at The Game Awards and features Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey.

As the title moves toward its planned early 2027 release, the studio says it will begin rolling out short gameplay clips showcasing combat, traversal, interactions, and environments, ahead of a more extensive gameplay reveal this summer.

Spanning thousands of years in the future, Exodus explores a universe shaped by various human and alien factions with competing interests. According to the developers, players will face moral choices while navigating “conflicting agendas that echo across generations.”

Describing the first clip released on Wednesday, the team highlighted a live combat scenario on the outskirts of Lyonesse, where Jun fights alongside Tom and Elise. Positioning and teamwork are key, with survival often depending on how effectively players rely on their companions.

The second clip shifts the focus to a space tower in Lyonesse, offering a slower-paced look at mission flow between combat encounters. Traversal plays a major role, with the railclaw tool enabling players to navigate hostile terrain and gain tactical advantages when needed.

In the third clip, players enter an ancient shrine on Khonsu, where towering Celestial architecture dominates the environment. The space encourages a more deliberate pace, inviting exploration as players uncover what lies within.
