Show host and producer Geoff Keighley has announced that The Game Awards 2026 will take place Thursday, December 10 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. He noted that further details will be revealed later this year.
The timing closely mirrors last year’s event and allows most major releases to qualify for consideration—with the notable exception of GTA 6, which may launch too late.
Players and fans are already responding with memes and posts about Grand Theft Auto VI, widely regarded as one of gaming’s most anticipated releases. The title won the Most Anticipated Game award at The Game Awards in both 2024 and 2025, claiming the honor twice consecutively due to multiple delays. Some are joking the pattern could continue if GTA 6’s release shifts to 2027.
Discussion is also emerging around whether GTA 6 could qualify for 2026 awards. For the 2025 show, games needed to launch by November 21 to be eligible. If those criteria remain unchanged, players would have until only November 20. GTA 6 is currently scheduled for November 19.
