NCSoft and Sony have officially introduced Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new MMORPG that is set in the Horizon world created by Guerrilla Games. It is being built primarily for mobile devices, with a PC version available through NCSoft’s PURPLE platform.
The first look was revealed at G-Star 2025, in South Korea, showing over two minutes of gameplay with developer commentary. According to the creators, Horizon Steel Frontiers is a full-fledged MMO featuring:
In-depth character customization and combat
Fighting mechanical beasts
Option to choose gear, how to play, or what to do
The story takes place in a brand new land, the Deadlands, where every player becomes a machine hunter. Players can work together or compete to collect resources to upgrade their characters. We do not know exactly when the events take place within the Horizon timeline or if characters like Aloy will be in it.
While the original Horizon put an emphasis on strategic combat (aiming at weak points, crafting the right ammo and building out the land) the MMO takes that core and re-imagines them for team-based gameplay. One player, per the trailer, could deploy a Thunderjaw turret, another could break enemy armor, and a third player could set traps or heal teammates. As the gameplay trailer shows, play can be done solo as well.
