Battlefield 6 kicks off Season 1 with the launch of REDSEC — a new free battle royale experience

EA and DICE have officially released Battlefield REDSEC, a free battle royale mode that arrives alongside the start of Season 1 for Battlefield 6. Players can now progress their Battle Pass across both the main game and REDSEC, unlocking rewards through either experience.

The update introduces a brand-new map, Fort Lyndon, where squads from NATO and Pax Armata clash in a large-scale battle for dominance.

Two core modes: Battle Royale and Gauntlet

REDSEC launches with two main game typesBattle Royale and Gauntlet.

  • The Battle Royale mode supports up to 100 players, grouped into squads of four or duos.
  • Players select their Class and Sidearm before deployment, then gain access to gadgets, call-ins, and special abilities as they progress.
  • The map features lootable gear, upgrade kits, and vehicle keycards that can unlock access to heavily armored tanks.

“Scour the map to find loadout items or complete squad missions to unlock powerful rewards,” says the official description.

Meanwhile, Gauntlet is described as a fast-paced, elimination-style mode, where eight squads compete in high-stakes missions such as Deadlock or Wreckage. After each round, the bottom two teams are eliminated until a final 1v1 squad showdown decides the winner.

“Only squads with the complete package will come out on top in this Gauntlet of elimination,” the developers note.

Class-based loadouts and Portal integration

Instead of custom loadouts, REDSEC assigns equipment based on the chosen Class. Each Class comes with:

  • 2 Gadgets
  • 1 Signature Weapon Proficiency
  • 1 Signature Trait
  • 4-trait Training Path

Players can only use a Sidearm and Melee Tool, which makes teamwork and role synergy essential.

REDSEC also features its own Portal mode, letting players customize rules and create matches on Fort Lyndon, Gauntlet, and Battle Royale maps. All REDSEC content is also available in the Battlefield 6 Portal.
