Insomniac first announced Wolverine back in September 2021 — alongside the recently released Spider-Man 2. At the time, the studio clarified that the project was in the “very early stages of development.”
Although it takes place in the same universe as Spider-Man, Wolverine is described as a standalone title. Since its announcement, the studio has not officially revealed any material from the game.
Interest in the project grew after the major hack of Insomniac, which led to playable builds and hundreds of documents — including details about the release date — being leaked online.
According to Mp1st, a publication with a track record of accurate reports on unreleased games, Wolverine is currently scheduled for release next year. The same report also claims that the studio is planning a separate spin-off focused on Venom.
These rumors gained momentum after 2023’s Spider-Man 2 featured an extended sequence where players could control Venom with a unique move set and abilities, prompting many to believe a standalone game about the character was in the works.
At the time, Insomniac’s senior narrative director Jon Paquette said the studio would listen to what fans wanted regarding potential spin-offs.
Insomniac’s most recent release remains Spider-Man 2, which received strong praise from both critics and fans. In 2024, the studio confirmed that the game would not receive any story expansions, despite earlier plans for now-canceled DLC.
