At the New Global Sport Conference in Saudi Arabia, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot discussed the future of the Far Cry series, now overseen by a new Tencent-backed subsidiary.
According to Guillemot, the company aims to place a stronger emphasis on multiplayer, allowing players to spend more time in the game.
These comments align with 2023 reports suggesting that Ubisoft is working on Far Cry 7 and a standalone multiplayer project. Reports indicated that:
- Far Cry 7 is being developed using the Snowdrop engine (instead of Dunia, used in recent entries).
- The standalone multiplayer game will be an extraction-based shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness.
For context, Far Cry 6 (2021) featured online co-op for the campaign but did not include competitive multiplayer.
After Far Cry 6, Ubisoft moved development back to its Montreal studio, along with leadership changes in 2023:
- Sandra Warren was promoted to Vice President and Executive Producer of the Far Cry brand.
- Drew Holmes, Far Cry 5 writer, became Far Cry IP Director.
