Helldivers 2, the PlayStation blockbuster, is officially launching on Xbox with full crossplay support

Arrowhead Game Studios has officially announced that Helldivers 2, the popular online co-op shooter that launched on PlayStation 5 and PC last year, will be making its way to Xbox Series X|S on August 26.

The Xbox version will support cross-platform play, allowing players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC to team up in the battle for Super Earth. Both the Standard Edition and the Super Citizen Edition of the game are now available for pre-order on the Microsoft Store.

“We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game,” said game director Mikael Eriksson. “We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.”

Helldivers 2 was a massive success for Sony, becoming its fastest-selling game ever, with over 12 million units sold within the first 12 weeks of launch across PC and PS5.

Sony has been expanding its reach in the live-service game space by bringing more of its multiplayer titles to multiple platforms, while its single-player titles remain largely PlayStation-exclusive, with later PC ports.

Meanwhile, Arrowhead continues to support Helldivers 2 with regular updates. Creative director Johan Pilestedt hinted that their ongoing commitment may see the game evolve so significantly that it could eventually become “Helldivers 3”. He has also confirmed that he’s currently brainstorming ideas for the studio’s next project.
