Electronic Arts has laid off between 300 and 400 employees, including around 100 staff members from Respawn Entertainment, according to a report by journalist Jason Schreier, citing a source familiar with the situation.
EA spokesperson Justin Higgs commented that the move was part of a broader strategic realignment:
“As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made some changes to better align our teams and allocate resources to support future growth.”
In addition to the layoffs, a project codenamed R7 was cancelled. The game was reportedly a mining-themed shooter set in the Titanfall universe.
Respawn later confirmed on social media that two early-stage incubation projects had been scrapped, one of which had already been shut down in early 2025:
“We made the decision to step away from two early incubation projects and are making some targeted adjustments to the team,” the studio stated.
