Nintendo Switch 2: Game Prices and New Editions Revealed

As the release of Nintendo Switch 2 approaches, the company has begun revealing details about pre-orders and game pricing for the new system. According to US retailers, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Kirby and The Forgotten Land Switch 2 Editions will cost $80.

Meanwhile, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be available for $70, according to retail listings.

Nintendo Switch 2 Game Prices: Mixed Pricing Models

Nintendo is using an unusual pricing strategy for Switch 2 games. For example, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza have different price points depending on the edition:

  • Mario Kart World (physical copy) – $80 / £75
  • Donkey Kong Bananza (digital version) – $65 / £58.99
  • Donkey Kong Bananza (physical version) – $70 / £66.99

Nintendo has not explained the reason for the price differences.

Switch 2 Edition: Enhanced Game Versions

Games labeled as Switch 2 Edition will feature improved visuals and additional features, but they must be purchased separately or upgraded if you own the original Switch versions. Upgrade pricing has not yet been disclosed, but Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will receive free upgrades for both Zelda titles.

Nintendo also confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends Z-A will receive Switch 2 Editions.

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Details

The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5, 2025, for $450 / £395. Nintendo has announced pre-order dates and held a special Nintendo Direct, where it revealed new projects, including a new Donkey Kong game, and explained the function of the mysterious C button.
