According to well-known insider Jeff Grubb, PlayStation is currently developing a new God of War spin-off set in Ancient Greece. While details remain scarce, the game is expected to be smaller in scale compared to the mainline entries, possibly following a similar approach to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which expanded upon its predecessor’s mechanics while telling a unique story.
At this time, it is unclear whether Sony Santa Monica is leading the development or if another studio is handling the project. Despite the success of the Norse saga, many fans have long hoped for a return to Kratos’ original setting. The God of War franchise originally focused on Kratos’ revenge against the Olympian gods, culminating in their destruction across three main installments.
A return to Ancient Greece could offer a fresh take on past events or explore untold moments between God of War III and the 2018 reboot. The spin-off is reportedly targeting a 2025 release, with PlayStation possibly revealing it later this year during one of its showcase events.
Previous rumors suggested that Kratos’ next adventure might take him to Egypt, but this latest information points to a different direction. Either way, a return to Greek mythology is sure to excite long-time fans of the series.
