Former Rockstar animator suggests GTA 6 is likely fully playable at this stage

A former Rockstar Games animator who worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 believes that GTA 6 is likely already fully playable, with the studio now focused on fixing bugs and polishing the game.

In an interview with Kiwi Talkz, ex-Rockstar developer Mike York speculated that the game is nearing completion. He suggested that while some features might still be tweaked, the core experience is in place, and extensive testing is underway.

“They’re probably still making a few new things or adjusting some aspects, but I assume the game is already playable, and a lot of people are testing it from start to finish,” York stated. He also noted that open-world games like GTA are particularly challenging to polish due to the sheer number of unpredictable player interactions.

York recalled his time working on GTA 5, saying the team spent 8 to 10 hours a day playing the game during the final development phase. He emphasized that Rockstar’s games are unique in their complexity compared to titles like The Witcher 3, as the freedom given to players makes bug-fixing a massive challenge.

GTA 6 is set for release in 2025, though rumors persist about potential delays. However, York’s insights suggest that Rockstar may already be in the final stages of development.
