HLTV: starting in 2025, the CS 2 major will feature 32 teams, expanding the tournament format

According to information from the HLTV portal, starting in 2025, the number of teams participating in the CS2 major will be increased from 24 to 32. This decision will change the championship format and create new opportunities for teams.

Journalists report that RMR tournaments, which currently serve as the last qualifying link for the major, will be eliminated. It is expected that invitations will be based on the Valve team ranking, ensuring a more transparent and fair selection process.

The increase in participants will also lead to the addition of another extra stage to the major, in addition to the existing Opening and Elimination stages. This change will extend the tournament duration by four days, allowing teams to showcase their skills in a more expansive format.

The first major to experience these changes will be the BLAST.tv Austin Major, scheduled for June 9-22, 2025. These innovations promise to make the competition even more exciting and competitive for both participants and spectators.
