The Epic Games Store is launching with three games: Fortnite, Fall Guys Mobile, and Rocket League Sidewipe. Fall Guys will support cross-platform play and progression, allowing players to sync their progress with the PC and console versions.
In an interview with Game File, Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic, stated, “Spending a billion dollars so far is a small investment for the future freedom of our company and others who want to compete in the market.”
These three games will also be available on AltStore, an independent mobile store that iOS users can access.
During a media briefing, Sweeney mentioned (via GamesIndustry.biz) that Apple and Google have made substantial efforts to slow down their progress and attempted to block them multiple times. However, the EC has consistently intervened to ensure competitors could enter the market, which they are now doing.
Although the store is not yet available on iOS in the UK, Steve Allison, general manager of the Epic Games Store, expressed optimism about expanding to all regions in the near future.
“We hope to be available worldwide on iOS over the next couple of years,” he said. “Additionally, we will continue collaborating with alternative stores globally that offer developers better terms.”
