Alex Hutchinson Teases New Savage Planet Game

This Tuesday, studio creative director Alex Hutchinson encouraged users to follow the newly created The Savage Planet Game account on X (Twitter). The page features a post hinting at an “incoming message” and links to a Savage Planet website, which also contains a similar teaser.

According to VGC, new game announcements are expected at next week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event. While this might not be related to a new Savage Planet game, Hutchinson later shared VGC’s story on X, adding to the anticipation surrounding upcoming announcements.

Journey to the Savage Planet, released in 2020, was developed by Typhoon Studios under Hutchinson’s direction. Hutchinson, who previously served as creative director on Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 3 and Far Cry 4, and lead designer on EA’s Spore, oversaw the project.

After Typhoon Studios was closed by its parent company Google, the core team reformed as Raccoon Logic in Montreal and regained the rights to the Savage Planet IP. Last year, Hutchinson and Raccoon Logic co-founder Reid Schneider told GamesIndustry.biz that the studio is 100% focused on the next game in the Savage Planet series.

Schneider noted that while the first game achieved moderate success, creating a new IP is challenging. Hutchinson added that sequels are often exciting as they build on the groundwork of the original game, allowing for improved development based on previous experiences.
